My Nanny Diaries

It's not just my summer job…. it's an adventure.

Melted Crayons & Rock Decorating

This is something fun that my friends & I used to do when we were little. The girls have been begging to have a playdate with my little brothers, so we thought it would be the perfect day to do some crafting!

What to do:

• Choose a bunch of good-sized rocks and place them on a baking sheet.

• Put them in the oven at about 260 degrees for 16-20 minutes.

• I bought a roll of thick paper at Lowe’s last year, and I thought it would be a good idea to place that over the table so crayon wax doesn’t spill everywhere. Plus, I let them color on it while the rocks were warming up.

• If the rocks are hot enough, when you touch the crayons to them, it should just melt right on it. Be careful not to burn yourself!

The birdies & my brothers love it.

• It’s so easy, and a perfect craft for killing some time. I love how it doesn’t take many supplies too. Have fun!

Crazy Heat

In my part of the country it is ridiculously hot. At the beginning of the day, the girls & I went to the splash park and in the afternoon we went to the pool. But in between that, we had a picnic at a creek a few miles away. We packed out lunches and went down. It was beautiful, and the water was perfect.

I’m not big on wildlife… So it took everything in me to not freak out when I saw a huge fish swim by, or when I nearly stepped on a crawfish. The girls had fun, and I envied their slight ignorance. Haha Wren was the one that spotted this fellow:

He is a tadpole that is almost completely a frog. I had never seen one that developed with its tail before.

I think that just knowing & imagining what I was stepping next to freaked me out a bit…. I left my imagination run away.

I wish I was more of a nature girl, because it was gorgeous out there.
